ART ROCKS

In celebration of the Arts and University Heights 120th anniversary, artists will turn large river rocks (which are the neighborhoods signature building element) into works of art to be displayed at September’s 3rd annual UH ARTS OPEN.  The smooth river stones are a symbol and a ubiquitous architectural feature of University Heights and make a fitting natural canvas or unique medium for the creativity and variety of artists.

The ART ROCKS!  art pieces will make their first public appearance on the August 15th  preview party at Swedenborg Hall along with other representative pieces of participating artists.   The ART ROCKS! project is intended as a fund raiser for University Heights 2008 Arts OPEN,  and so UHAA will cheerfully accept any free-will donation from contributing artists.

Artists chosen for ArtRocks 2008 are Amber Pierce, Brandie Maddalena, Carolyn Butler, d. goth, Dark Vomit, Diana Fowler, Duke Windsor, Jo Caldwell, Josie Rodriguez, Kaja Laustsen, Mario Torero, Matt Spangler, Midge Hyde, Patti Fox, Ricardo Vela, Sherry Krulle-Beaton, and Weston Riffle.

Live music by Korrie Paliotto and artwork exhibitions from participating UH Arts Open 2008 artists.

EGGstravaganza project/ part of University Heights Arts Open

Ongoing through September 16, 2007                                                   www.uharts.org

San Diego, CA -August 2007: This year in celebration of the ARTS, over a dozen local San Diego artists will turn real ostrich eggs into works of art to be displayed at the 2nd Annual University Heights ARTS OPEN.

The EGGS will make their first public appearance on August 9th at a preview party at the Lafayette Hotel, prior to being on display at Designs in Shell Gallery (2754 Calhoun Street, in the heart of Plaza Del Pasado in Old Town).

Eggs will then be available for a silent auction at Swedenborg Hall on the second day of the ARTS weekend, Sunday September 16th, located at 1531 Tyler St, San Diego, CA 92103.

The project, a fundraiser for University Heights 2008 ARTS OPEN and their elementary school art program, is patterned after events such as Cows on Parade in Chicago and Painted Ponies in Temecula. The Ostrich is the symbol and mascot for UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, and the egg a fitting symbol for the creativity of artists.
