UHAA Artist Profile

University Heights artist, Randy Riccoboni is a California native influenced by his early years living in the suburbs of New York City.  Riccoboni’s exhibition of his paintings at the Reidel House Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut in 1991 was his first public showing of the bold colors he continues to work with.

In 1992, Riccoboni returned to the west coast and established himself and his vision.  His works have been exhibited and collected both nationally and internationally. A few permanent collections include the White House (office of the national AIDS policy coordinator), Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Yale University.  After some years in the Los Angeles area, he came to San Diego, and then University Heights where he has lived for the past four years.  He is currently producing paintings on canvas and paper depicting his travels and local interest.

Riccoboni’s subjects include California landscape, cityscape, portraiture, street-scenes, public events, and everyday happenings.  His palette is derived from the bold colors of the original rainbow flag.   He uses those colors to represent sexuality, healing, sunshine, nature, art, harmony, and spirit, to achieve his vision. Riccoboni’s intention is to represent community and a sense of place in a positive and life affirming manner.

Riccoboni’s works can be viewed at his web-site www.rdriccoboni.com and at his online store Cafepress.com/Sandiegoart. The San Diego Historical Society and The Coronado History and Art Museum and UH Shearz salon have begun to carry his handmade note-cards of San Diego and Coronado.  His works will also be on display at the Saylula Salon in an event to benefit the AJA project on September 16, 2006.

Randy Riccoboni is one of the over 70 artists participating in the University Heights Arts Open event by opening his studio on September 16 and 17.
